Tara Cowan is the 3rd and 4th grade Special Education teacher at Park Road Elementary. She also assists with the Academic Team. Tara graduated from Davenport High School before attending Seminole, Rose State and UCO. She’s now in her fifth year teaching at Chandler Public Schools. 

Q  What led you to teaching?
A  My love for people with special needs.  I wanted to be an advocate for them.


Q  Did you have any key mentors or people who influenced who you are, and/or your decision to become an educator?
A  My cousin and niece, who both are amazing individuals.


Q  What would you say most motivates you to teach?
A  When your kiddos are successful.

 

Q  What do you find most challenging about being a teacher?
A  The politics.


Q  What's the best thing to happen since you started teaching?
A  The success of my kiddos of course! The friends that I have made among the teachers and staff.


Q  What might students and parents be surprised to know about you?
A  I am a huge concert buff! I love going to concerts!

Q  What profession other than your own would you most like to attempt?
A  I have my degree in Speech and Language Pathology, my calling was in special education instead.

Q  What are three things every teacher should own?

A  Paper clips, pens, and Band-Aids!


Tara is married to her high school sweetheart, Jason. He graduated from Chandler, but now teaches and coaches in Davenport. They have three beautiful children; a daughter and two boys. The boys are a senior in high school and a sophomore. Tara spends her free time running to activities with the boys and husband, concerts with her best friend Shannon, and crafting/projects.
