What led you to teaching?
I love history and government and wanted to hopefully inspire other people to enjoy it as well!
Did you have any key mentors or people who influenced you?
My Uncle David and my high school coach and history teacher Coach Little influenced my decision to become an educator.
What would you say most motivates you to teach?
I watched the documentary series “Indiana Jones” and he was a teacher and bested the Nazi’s not once, but twice…just saying… it’s motivating stuff!
What are you most excited or passionate about?
History, sports, comic books, pretty much everything I do I guess.
What do you find most challenging about being a teacher?
Grading, I always get behind!
What's the best thing to happen since you started teaching?
When students understand what you are attempting to teach them is a beautiful thing, especially when they enjoy it.
What might students and parents be surprised to know about you?
I would have said: I played in a band, but they used the internet and figured that out!
What profession other than your own would you most like to attempt?
King of England would be nice, all the perks of ruling but without the stress of making day to day decisions.
What are three things every teacher should own?
Disinfectant, clothes, and a house… I think those three are important.
Tell us a little bit about your family, and how you enjoy spending your free time:
My Dad grew up in the great depression and worked in the oilfield since he was 14. My Mom is a little younger but grew up in a similar time and has always been involved in choir and theater. She is kind of a dream chaser whereas my Dad is the more practical type. I have a little bit of both in my makeup, which is probably a good thing. I work a lot and try to make sure I always save a little money, but at the same I always want to achieve something greater.
In my free time I play video games, paintball, read books… and comics. I likewise enjoy watching TV shows (The Expanse, The 100, Arrow, etc) and movies (Ghostbusters, Batman, Pacific Rim).
Chandler Wrestling will host a home dual on Tuesday, December 4 at 5:30. Come out and support the Lions! In his first season Coach Slane has 52 wrestlers (JH and HS combined).
