Q What led you to teaching and coaching?
A When I was in high school our guidance counselor told us to make sure you choose something you would enjoy doing the rest of your life. Since I loved playing sports I decided I wanted to be a coach.
Q Did you have any people who influenced who you are, and your decision to become a coach?
A My first high school basketball coach Jason Turk. He was on one of Eddie Sutton’s final four teams at OSU. He believed in me and taught us many things that have helped throughout my life.
Q What would you say most motivates you to coach?
A Working with young people and being able to teach them the sport and help them develop a work ethic that will help them after high school.
Q What are you most excited or passionate about?
A Watching my kids grow up and being able to see my players/former players succeed in anything.
Q What do you find most challenging about being a coach?
A Motivating kids when nothing seems to be going right. I truly believe you learn more from losing than you do winning. When things don't go your way it's easy to give up or quit. But being able to push through and keep on going that is what matters the most.
Q What's the best thing to happen since you started teaching?
A I have been very fortunate during my teaching/coaching career to teach and coach at great places. Deciding to come to Chandler probably was one of the best decisions we have made as a family.
Q What might students and parents be surprised to know about you?
A Math was my least favorite subject in school.
Q What profession other than your own would you most like to attempt?
A I definitely would become a professional poker player.
Q What are three things every coach should own?
A 1. A good recliner to be able to sit in after a long day. 2. A good dry erase marker because you never know when you're going to have to draw up a play. 3. A good joke book because you never know when you might need a good joke.
