At the end of this school year, we will bid farewell to long-time teacher Judy Evans.  After 21 years spent teaching in Chandler Public Schools she is retiring.  She is the PE teacher at Park Road where students look forward to dodgeball tournaments.  Judy was named Miss Teammate while playing college basketball and that attitude is something she has carried into her career.  She encourages students to do their best and could oftentimes be seen running the mile alongside them.

Q  When did you decide to become a teacher?
A  I decided to become a teacher in high school because I loved working with children.  My high school coach, Judy Payne was an inspiration in my life.  She saw something in me I didn’t know was there and challenged me in sports and in being a leader.

Q  What do you think is the biggest challenge facing teachers?
A  I think the biggest challenge is just being appreciated.  It’s hard when the state isn’t making education a priority.

Q  What do you enjoy most about teaching?
A  I enjoy watching children when they figure things out and their faces light up!

Q  How would you describe yourself as a teacher?
A  I would describe myself as a teacher who cares about children enough to want them to succeed in life.

Q  What is the best thing to happen since you began coaching?
A  I would say the best thing that happened in my coaching career was to see a team (7th grade basketball) that didn’t have a lot of talent, but came together as a team supporting one another, getting close and began winning.

Mrs. Baird’s 6th grade class all agreed that dodgeball is their favorite thing to do in PE.  The class had this to say about Judy Evans, “She is fun, respectful, nice, funny, and is fair with them.”

Several former students echoed those sentiments.  “She’s awesome, encouraging, fun and one of the best teachers!”

In her free time Judy enjoys exercising, mainly on bicycle these days.  She loves to read and do all kinds of puzzles.  She has three grown children: Jo (34), Trish (33), and Jon (28).
