Chandler Public Schools

Shanon Smith is the new secretary at East Side Elementary, but she isn’t new to East Side, or Chandler Public Schools. This is her sixth year at East Side. She worked the first four years as a kindergarten aide, and was the librarian last year.  An alumna of Chandler High School, Shannon was born and raised in Chandler. She went to East Side from kindergarten through 5th grade, spent 6th and 7th grade in the old Memorial school, and as an 8th grader she moved into the new Park Road school (it became the middle school). She finished 9th through 12th at the high school.  

What do you enjoy most about working at the school?
Seeing the kid’s smiling faces and knowing we give them a sense of stability and a place they can feel safe and loved.  

What three words would people use to describe you?
Creative, caring and dependable. (Editors note: true, true, true – I would add loyal and good friend to that list!)

What was your favorite vacation?
That would be the year we took my parents with us to Disney World.  It truly is a magical place and I loved watching my kids and their grandparents share in the wonder of it.  That will be a vacation I will always remember.  

What are some of your hobbies and interests?
Watching my kids in whatever sport/adventure they are doing at the time.  Spending time with family and friends.  Going to OSU games.  

What is your favorite book?
Where the Red Fern Grows.  The first time I read it I was in the 4th grade.  It was the first book that really caught my interest and pulled me in.  I really couldn’t put it down.  

What is your favorite movie?
Fools Rush In.  I love a good romantic comedy.  

Shannon and her husband Brian have two children Ahna and Rylan, who both attend Chandler Public Schools.
