"I enjoy watching the children learn. "
Doris Carter

Retiring Kindergarten teacher Doris Carter grew up in Chandler.  She has been a teacher at East Side Elementary for 18 years.  She said she enjoys watching the children learn.

When asked about Mrs. Carter, one second grade student said, “She's always nice to me!” A CPS parent said, “She’s an institution.”

One of her students said she really enjoys her classroom because Mrs. Carter gives them treats. Who doesn’t love to eat treats at school? I can still remember my kindergarten teachers Mrs. Henderson and Mrs. Delphon giving me snacks and letting me take a nap in the early 80s.

Fellow kindergarten teacher Trish Lewis said, “I learned a lot about patience and kindness when I worked as Mrs. Carter's assistant for so many years. We are definitely going to miss her!”

Doris is married to Bo Carter.  She has three children Dana, Brent and Jon; and four stephchildren Mecca, Shannon, Kendra and Thad. In her free time Doris likes to spend time with her children and grandchildren. She also enjoys reading and gardening.

Mrs. Carter – Thank you for loving and teaching the children at East Side!
