"I love when you can actually see that proverbial "
Terri German

Terri German is a first grade teacher at East Side Elementary.  Originally from Shawnee, Terri has been teaching for 11 years, eight of those in Chandler.

Q  When did you decide to become a teacher and why?
A  I was a sophomore in college when I decided to be a teacher.

Q  Is there a teacher who impacted your life?
A  I can't necessarily remember just one particular thing, but my 4th grade teacher, Mrs. Dulworth, made a lasting impression.  She genuinely loved her students!  She wanted the best from and for her students.  She was kind and patient - EVERYDAY!  You worked hard to make her proud.

Q  What is the biggest challenge you face as a teacher?
A Meeting the individual needs of all my students.  That phrase "There's not enough time in the day..." comes to mind.

Q  What do you enjoy most about teaching?
A  It is very rewarding!  I love when you can actually see that proverbial "light bulb" come on.  They are eager to learn.  Plus, they love their teacher even when I make mistakes.

Q  What’s a favorite memory since you’ve been teaching?
A  One of my favorite memories is of a little girl who told me she couldn't read.  With just a little prodding and sounding out, her smile grew bigger and bigger with each page she read.  When she got to the end, she was grinning from ear to ear.  I'll never forget the smile on her face!

Terri and her husband Troy have two children: Tanner, 15 and Tatumn, 12 who both attend Chandler schools.  In her free time she loves to read.
